In the springtime of 2020, Ms. Loftin endured some unexpected housing changes and became homeless with her family. She had to move from her rental unit because the property provider sold the property without giving her any notice. Now, Ms. Loftin. faced being at-risk of losing her children if she did not locate housing soon.

Ms. Taylor, a 72-year-old grandmother, found herself grieving her youngest child while taking on the responsibilities of raising her two grandchildren. Ms. Taylor relies on her monthly social security check as the only source of income for the family. “I’m at a standstill,” she said. “I feel stuck. Just stuck.”

This Mother’s Day will be different for most of us. No big celebrations at home with relatives. No restaurant brunch with the kids. For some families, joyful experiences with Mom will be at a safe distance, whether six feet away or through a screen. We all feel those changes. But imagine celebrating Mother’s Day this year as a single mother who has recently survived domestic violence and homelessness.

This is a true story about a couple we will call William and Cynthia. They’re a joyful couple. But they were nearing complete desperation when they reached out to us at Community Link.

Ms. Da'Monique Leggett works three jobs but was struggling to make ends meet. She reached out to Community Link to give her daughters a better life.
